Drawn to the area for its beautiful scenery, range of outdoor activities for every season, as well as the warm and loving people, Audrey Nolten, M.D. and her family made the move to Sandpoint in 2020.
This summer, she opened the doors of Pend Oreille Aesthetics Boutique—a medical office … for beauty! At this physician-owned and operated business, located on Euclid Street in Sandpoint, Dr. Nolten brings her wealth of education and experience to her clients.
Inspired by her father, who specialized in endocrinology, Dr. Nolten’s only career plan since childhood was to become a physician. She succeeded in what she set out to do. She graduated from the School of Medicine at UW-Madison in Wisconsin, and after a year of internship through Loyola University at Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago, she completed a four-year diagnostic radiology residency at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, and passed the American Board of Radiology examinations. She then took a fellowship in cross-sectional imaging at Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
With a specialty in diagnostic radiology, also known as imaging, Dr. Nolten found herself drawn to ultrasound, “an imaging technology that radiologists use to get a ‘real-time’ impression of the patient’s condition and perform image-guided procedures,” she shares. “I have done many procedures daily with ultrasound over the past three decades.”
It was a colleague of hers who encouraged Dr. Nolten to pursue a new path. “She inspired me to expand my scope of practice through an independent aesthetics business, leading me to realize that there are many ways to use diagnostic imaging. Having worked with different imaging modalities and emerging technologies through clinical trials, I saw that the application of technology for beauty offers me both creativity and entrepreneurship. And, there is no bad news!” she adds.
